Medici Ermete is a historic, family-run winery located in Emilia-Romagna, Italy, renowned for elevating the quality and reputation of Lambrusco wines. Founded in 1890 by Remigio Medici, the enterprise began as a way to enhance wines from the family’s vineyards situated between the Via Emilia and the Enza Valley hills. Over successive generations—starting with Ermete, then Valter and Giorgio—the winery grew its acclaim and began exporting globally, particularly during the Lambrusco boom of the 1970s, when it became one of the first Italian wines exported to the United States.
In the late 1980s, under the leadership of the fourth generation, Alberto and Pierluigi Medici, the family revolutionized Lambrusco production by reducing yields by more than 30% to improve quality and pioneering a cru approach. This led to the creation of the acclaimed “Concerto” Lambrusco Salamino in 1993, a benchmark for the style.
Today, the fifth generation, led by Alessandro Medici, oversees approximately 80 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards. Their wines, crafted with deep respect for terroir and tradition, are exported to over 70 countries, securing Medici Ermete’s place among Italy’s most respected ambassadors of Emilia-Romagna winemaking excellence.
