Bodegas Luis Gurpegui Muga is a century-old Spanish winery rooted in tradition and innovation, originating in the early 20th century in San Adrián, Navarra. The founder, Primitivo Gurpegui Muro, initially worked as a cooper and winemaker in Mendoza, Argentina, before returning to Spain in 1921 to establish his own winery. His pioneering production of rosé wines, known as “claretes,” earned him the title “Rey del Rosado” (King of Rosé) across northern Spain.
After Primitivo’s passing, his son Luis Gurpegui Muga assumed leadership at age 18 and transformed the business into a major player in DO Navarra, DOCa Rioja, and DO Ribera del Guadiana regions. His vision fostered the development of renowned brands such as Viñadrián, Gurpegui, Monte Ory, Dominio de la Plana, Cinco Viñas, and Rancho Viejo.
Today, the winery blends classical Rioja heritage with modern techniques, aging wines in steel and concrete tanks alongside 12,500 oak barrels. Its portfolio includes DOCa Rioja reservas and crianzas, as well as DO Navarra rosados and Chardonnays, reflecting a balance of terroir expression and craftsmanship. This enduring family legacy maintains its identity through authenticity, respect for origin, and dedication to producing high-quality Spanish wines.
