Featherstone Estate Winery is a small, award-winning winery located on 23 acres of rolling hills in the prestigious Twenty Mile Bench sub-appellation along the Niagara Escarpment in the Twenty Valley wine region of Niagara, Ontario. Established in the 1970s, with its first wines produced in 1999, Featherstone has a long tradition of sustainable, eco-friendly farming, being insecticide-free since its inception. The vineyard includes some of Niagara’s oldest Riesling vines planted in 1978, as well as Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc planted in 1986. Today, the winery vinifies about 9,000 cases annually, bottling their entire grape crop.
Founded by Dave Johnson and Louise Engel, and now owned by Rayla and George Myhal since 2024, Featherstone emphasizes a farming philosophy that nurtures biodiversity and sustainability, earning it Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario (SWO) certification. They are notable for being one of the first Ontario wineries to use Canadian oak barrels, enhancing their distinctive barrel-fermented Chardonnay and expanding their use of local oak in winemaking.
Featherstone’s wines include highly rated Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and innovative sparkling rosé blends, celebrated for their expression of site and balance. The winery is known for a peaceful, welcoming atmosphere and dedication to crafting wines true to their unique terroir with minimal chemical intervention, embodying respect for the land and wine quality.
